International Champions Cup football tips – Benfica vs PSG prediction

Benfica have lost a number of key players over the summer, including Danilo, Maxi Pereira and Silvio. In addition to this, manager Jorge Jesus has joined rivals Sporting and new boss Rui Vitoria, has a job on his hands replacing him. However, Benfica have also been busy bringing players in and the likes of Sidnei, Adel Taarabt, Nelson Oliveira and Airton will hope to feature at some point.

PSG have brought in Kevin Trapp, from what seems to be an endless line of excellent young German goalkeeping talent. The main absentee from last season’s squad is Yohann Cabaye, who left to join Crystal Palace. Other than the promotion of some promising young talent, PSG are yet to make a big move in the transfer market and it’s doubtful how much the players who were involved in the Copa America will feature here.

Possible Line-ups

Benfica: 4-4-2 formation: Lopes; Sidnei, Luisão, López, Eliseu; Almeida, Samaris, Talisca, Salvio; Jonas, Lima

PSG: 4-3-3 formation: Trapp; Aurier, Sabaly, Marquinhos, van der Wiel; Verratti, Rabiot, Matuidi; Moura, Bahebeck, Ibrahimović

  • Benfica have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • PSG have won 9 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Benfica have scored an average of 2.6 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, PSG have scored an average of 2.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Benfica’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of PSG’s previous 10 matches
  • The teams last met in the UEFA Champions League back in 2013 and Benfica won 2-1 in Lisbon

Both Benfica and PSG go in to this game with possible starting line-ups that could be way off what we will see come the start of the season. However, some key players are sure to be on show, in addition to some new arrivals and young talent, looking to prove themselves. This mix of players could create an exciting game.

Although neither team will be busting a gut to win this one, there could be plenty of goal mouth action, as these teams are never usually shy in going forward. If this was a Champions League match, you would expect to see PSG come away with the win, however, in a friendly environment a draw is just as likely. The main concern of the managers will be to see their players return to full match fitness.

We say: Draw at 12/5 with Bet365
