International Champions Cup football tips – Chelsea vs Barcelona prediction

Jose Mourinho will continue to give his first team squad the opportunity to gain match fitness, ahead of the new Premier League season. Changes to the Chelsea team which defeated PSG on penalties could see Ramires and Kurt Zouma start the game.

Luis Enrique will also bring in some different faces in to the Barcelona starting XI for this match. The likes of Ivan Rakitic and Jeremy Mathieu could come in to the team, having started the match against Manchester United on the substitutes bench.

Possible Line-ups

Chelsea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Zouma, Ivanovic; Matic, Ramires; Hazard, Oscar, Willian; Costa

Barcelona: 4-3-3 formation: Stegen; Adriano, Pique, Mathieu, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Neymar, Suarez, Pedro

  • Chelsea have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Barcelona have won 7, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Chelsea have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Barcelona have scored an average of 2.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Chelsea’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Barcelona’s previous 10 matches
  • The teams last met was in 2012 and Chelsea knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League

Chelsea have yet to win a match in normal time in the 2015 International Champions Cup. A disappointing 4-2 defeat to New York Red Bulls, was followed up by a 1-1 draw with PSG. Chelsea’s defence has been highlighted as a potential problem area for the new season, with John Terry another year older and Gary Cahill not performing at his best level. This match against Barcelona may see Kurt Zouma given another chance at the back, against a strong Barcelona attack.

Barcelona have also tasted defeat in the International Champions Cup, losing 3-1 to Manchester United last time out. Despite the defeat, Barcelona played well at times and created some excellent goal scoring chances, hitting the woodwork on a number of occasions. Luis Enrique will not be overly concerned by that defeat coming in to this game and will expect his players to bounce back with a win.
