International Champions Cup football tips – Manchester United vs San Jose Earthquakes prediction

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, has confirmed that he will make multiple changes to his team at the interval of this match. However, the Dutchman may want to take a look at the midfield partnership of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger from the kick-off. There may also be a starting place for James Wilson in attack, as the young striker looks to cement a place in the squad for next season.

It’s unclear as to how San Jose Earthquakes will line-up but the starting eleven is likely to be much different to the team that ends the game. Manager Dominic Kinnear may opt to go for a similar team that started the match against LA Galaxy in the MLS and then make a number of changes as the match progresses.

Possible Line-ups

Manchester United: 4-3-3 formation: Johnstone; Darmian, Smalling, McNair, Shaw; Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Pereira; Depay, Mata, Wilson

San Jose Earthquakes: 4-5-1 formation: Bingham; Stewart, Goodson, Wynne, Bernardez; Barrera, Garcia, Alashe, Salinas, Thompson; Amarikwa

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of San Jose Earthquake’s previous 10 matches
  • Manchester United won their first International Champions Cup match 1-0 against Club America

Louis van Gaal will be pleased that his team started their International Champions Cup campaign with a win over Club America. An added bonus was the debut goal for new signing Morgan Schneiderlin plus the performance of Andreas Pereira off the bench.

San Jose Earthquakes have been in dreadful form, losing their last five matches in a row. Their latest defeat was a 5-2 thrashing by LA Galaxy in the MLS and Kinnear will have to pick his players up for this one. The Earthquakes may opt for a defensive approach towards the game and try and restrict Manchester United to as few goal scoring opportunities as possible.

New forward, Memphis Depay, will be hoping he can get off the mark for Manchester United in this match. The Dutchman will definitely want to get his first goal for the club before the start of the season.
