Europa League preview – Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao prediction.

Leading scorer Kevin Gameiro was rested at the weekend and will return to the side as Sevilla look to finish the job they started in Bilbao last week. Unai Emery won’t be naming the same side that won the first leg as full-back Benoit Tremoulinas is out with a hamstring strain. The centre-back pairing of Rami and Kolodziejczak should remain as there’s a doubt that Daniel Carrico will be fit and Marco Andreolli is unavailable due to his injury problem.

Athletic Bilbao made a number of changes to the side for La Liga game against Rayo at the weekend but Ernesto Valverde is expected to same team that lined up for the first leg. Aritz Aduriz will return which would see Inaki Williams in a more familiar role on the right after playing centre forward on Sunday. Others rested and expecting to start are full-back Mikel Balenziaga and midfielder Mikel San Jose.

Possible Line-ups

Sevilla 4-2-3-1 formation: Soria; Coke, Rami, Kolodziejczak, Escudero; N’Zonzi, Krychowiak; Vitolo, Banega, Krohn-Dehli; Gameiro

Athletic Bilbao 4-2-3-1 formation: Herrerin; Marcos, Boveda, Etxeita, Balenziaga; Jose, Benat; Williams, Garcia, Muniain; Aduriz

Prediction

Sevilla reverted to type when losing 2-1 away to Valencia on Sunday and have still to register an away win La Liga this season. Home form is a different matter, with Sevilla winning 21 of 24 in all competitions. Emery’s side joined this competition after being eliminated from the Champions League and have won both home games in the Europa League, 3-0 v Molde and 3-0 v Basel.

Athletic Bilbao ended a four-game winless run by defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 at the weekend. They won three consecutive away games in the Europa League before losing 2-1 at Valencia in the previous round to qualify on the away goals rule. January’s league meeting in Sevilla finished with a 2-0 victory to the home team and Bilbao have not won at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since 2011.

Sevilla will be happy with a draw but should get opportunities to score as Athletic Bilbao have no alternative but to push for the win.
