Free horse racing tip for the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Monday 26th December. The final line up for the Boxing Day feature became a lot clearer over the last few days with the defection of 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Coneygree and the announcement that Colin Tizzard’s exciting novice Thistlecrack would be joining his stablemate and last year’s winner Cue Card in the highlight of the holiday period.

While many now regard the Grade 1 contest as a virtual match between the two market leaders, there are reasons to look beyond the big two for a value each-way bet and this week’s racing tip is the Nicky Henderson-trained Josses Hill who will be supplemented at the five-day declaration stage.

Despite finishing second to Vautour in the 2014 Supreme Novices Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival we were never likely to see best of the son of Winged Love until the gelding was sent over fences. It has taken time for the horse to get the hang of jumping the bigger obstacles, as his initial performances could generally be described as novicey or even clumsy. However, the eight-year-old has looked a different proposition in his two starts this season, particularly the most recent when beating a quality field with little trouble after putting in a polished round of jumping to take Huntingdon’s Grade 2 Betfred Peterborough Chase earlier this month.

Unlike Cue Card, Josses Hill has shown a preference for going right-handed, a trait which could close the gap between the two horses. While Thistlecrack is one of the most exciting chasing prospects in recent year’s, he is still an inexperienced novice and the outcome may not be the foregone conclusion the betting predictions would have us believe. Ladbrokes can not split the front two, going 6-4 the pair, but it is the 14-1 about Josses Hill with BetVictor that is the most tempting especially as the final line up may feature no more than a field of six or seven.

Recommended Bet – 1 point each-way Josses Hill 14-1
