Euro 2016 football tips – Croatia vs Italy prediction

Croatia will have to make do without key midfielder Luka Modric, who will miss the game through injury. That could mean a start in the centre of midfield for Milan Badelj, alongside Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic. Striker Mario Mandzukic will start up-front, with support from an attacking three.

Italy are also missing a key man, with defender Giorgio Chiellini still struggling with the injury that kept him out of the Champions League final. Inter Milan’s Andrea Ranocchia could start in a back three, along with Leonardo Bonucci and Davide Astori. Graziano Pelle and Manolo Gabbiadini are competing for a place up-front.

Probable Line-ups

Croatia: 4-2-3-1 formation: Subasic; Vrasljko, Vida, Corluka, Srna; Badelj, Rakitic; Olic, Kovacic, Perisic; Mandzukic

Italy: 3-5-2 formation: Buffon; Astori, Bonucci, Ranocchina; Candreva, Marchisio, Rossi, Verratti, Darmian; Gabbiadini, Immobile

  • Croatia have won 7, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Italy have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Croatia have scored an average of 2.7 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Italy have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Croatia’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Italy’s previous 10 matches
  • The first meeting between these teams in the Group ended 1-1 in Italy

Croatia find themselves top of Group H at the half way stage, with 13 points from their five games. Currently undefeated, their only dropped points came in the 1-1 draw in Italy, which will be viewed as a good result. The basis of Croatia’s campaign has been a solid defence, conceding just 2 goals in their five games.

Italy come in to this match in second place, with 11 points from their five games. Draws at home to Croatia and in Bulgaria mean that Italy are only 2 points clear of third place Norway and could slip behind them if they do not pick anything up in Split.

Considering the overall form of both teams and the fact that Croatia will be playing at home, in-front of a passionate crowd, they have the potential to come away with maximum points from this one. It’s sure to be a tight match and goals could be at a premium.

We say: Croatia to win and under 2.5 goals at 3/1 with Bet365
