Euro 2016 football tips – Spain vs Ukraine prediction

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has called up Sevilla midfielder Vitolo, who is having a great season, while Diego Costa is set to miss out on the game with a hamstring injury suffered when playing for Chelsea against Hull at the weekend. Ukraine go in to the match with star player Andriy Yarmolenko in good form for both club and country, so they will be looking to get him on the ball as often as possible.

The Spanish team have scored an average of 1.9 goals per match over the last ten, to Ukraine’s 1.3, which is a positive sign as it means we could be in for some goals. If we then take a look at goals conceded per match over the last ten, Spain have conceded 1.2, which means they can score goals, but also have a tendency to concede them too. Ukraine have a tighter defence than you might think and go into the game in good form, with only 0.5 goals per games conceded over the last ten.

  • Out of the last ten games Spain have been involved in, 6 of them have involved 2.5 goals or more in, to Ukraine’s 3, which means that the statistics clearly match up to the form of the two teams.
  • The two teams have only met five times previously in their history and on the last occasion, Spain won convincingly 4-0. Head coach Mykhaylo Fomenko will be hoping that doesn’t happen again.

The two teams are neck and neck at the moment in Euro 2016 qualifying Group C, both on 9 points in second and third place behind Slovakia on twelve, so it should be an interesting game.

Spain could have done with Diego Costa up top, as he is in some fantastic form this season, but they have enough about them to score some goals and win the game.
