Spanish La Liga preview – Deportivo La Coruna Vs Sporting Gijon prediction

Deportivo will be missing Cani through injury and will be the only absentee. The home side has enjoyed a positive start to the season and will be eager to continue. No real changes are expected from Victor Sanchez who should opt for the same XI from the previous game. Lucaz Perez will continue to be the sole attacker and will be the focal point of their attacks.

For the visitors, the news of Luis Hernandez passing fit is a shot in the arm before the game. He should slot straight into the XI at the centre of defence. Alen Halilovic and Tony Sanabria are both expected to keep their places. The narrow defeat to Valencia in the last round notwithstanding, Abelardo could stick to the same team.

Possible Line-ups

Deportivo La Coruna: 4-2-3-1 formation: Lux; Navarro, Arribas, Sidnei, Laure; Mosquera, Borges; Alberto, Fajr, Juanfran; Perez

Sportin Gijon: 4-4-1-1 formation: Cuellar; Lopez, Hernandez, Bernardo, Lora; Jony, Alvarez, Cases, Perez; Halilovic; Sanabria

Statistics

  • Deportivo are undefeated in their last 7 matches in La Liga
  • Sporting Gijon failed to score in their last 3 matches in La Liga
  • Under 2.5 goals are scored in 5 of Deportivo’s last 6 homes games in La Liga
  • Under 2.5 goals are scored in 3 last matches between these sides in all competitions

Prediction

Deportivo come into the game with an unbeaten record in La Liga so far. The hosts have taken 5 points out a possible 9. They sit at 7th place in the table currently but would like to continue their good start. Their home record is always impressive and would like to build on that.

The visitors on the other hand have just two points from the draws against Real Madrid and Real Sociedad. Resolute defending in these games earned them great plaudits. However, they lost the next game to a late goal from Valencia. Abelardo’s young side are yet to score a goal this season but are defending mighty well.

Deportivo would like to win the game but Sporting Gijon’s defence is proving a tough nut to crack, this season. It would be an entertaining match but could end up in a draw.
