La Liga preview – Real Madrid vs Malaga prediction

Sergio Ramos remains an injury doubt but he may come into the side in place of Pepe. Isco should be up for a start against his former club. Mateo Kovacic had a good game against Athletic Club and could retain his place. But, Rafael Benitez is a known advocate of reshuffling and could spring a surprise or two in the starting XI.

For Malaga, there are doubts on the availability of Nordin Amrabat but he could return for the game. Igancio Camacho and Roque Santacruz are still out for Javi Garcia’s team. Marcos Angeleri and Weligton should be the preferred pairing in defensive midfield for the visitors.

Possible Line-ups

Real Madrid: 4-2-3-1 formation: Navas; Marcelo, Varane, Ramos, Carvajal; Kroos, Modric; Ronaldo, Kovacic, Isco; Benzema

Malaga: 4-2-3-1 formation: Kameni; Torres, Weligton, Angeleri, Rosales; Tissone, Recio; Carlos, Amrabat, Horta; Charles

Statistics

  • Real Madrid have won 21 of their last 24 matches against Malaga in all competitions
  • Real Madrid have won 17 of their last 19 home matches in La Liga
  • Malaga failed to score in their last 5 matches in La Liga
  • Real Madrid have scored at least 2 goals in 13 of their last 15 games in La Liga
  • Malaga have lost 8 of their last 9 away matches in La Liga
  • There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Malaga’s last 5 games in La Liga

Prediction

Real Madrid come into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Athletic Club. Their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo had to endure another poor evening but Benitez will be happy to see his side grind out a win without their star performer. Los Blancos are top of the table thanks to their superior goal scoring record. With Benzema in good scoring form so far, Madrid will look to continue that record.

Malaga on the other hand are yet to win so far in this campaign. Three of those five matches ended up in losses apart from the fact that they could not score yet in the season. There is every reason to fear for the fans that this could be a long season ahead for Malaga in the relegation battle.

This is a match-up between the leaders and the laggards of the table. The hosts are still finding their form but should easily overcome the visitors for three points.
