Spanish La Liga preview – Sporting Gijon Vs Real Betis prediction

For Sporting Gijon, Ivan Cuellar is still short of match fitness which would mean Alberto will continue in goal. Tony Sanabria is absent with injury which means that Castro and Guerrero will feature at the top for the hosts. Jorge Mere and Roberto Canella could be brought in for some action from the start.

For Real Betis, Dani Ceballos will be available following a ban and should feature in the midfield. Alfred N’Diaye is out due to an injury which could pave way for Petros to feature for the visitors. Francisco Molinero is also injured which could mean the use of Cristian Piccini at right-back.

Possible Line-ups

Sporting Gijon: 4-4-2 formation: Garcia; Canella, Hernandez, Mere, Lora; Jony, Alvarez, Cases, Halilovic; Castro, Guerrero

Real Betis: 4-4-2 formation: Adan; Vargas, Cabrera, Westermann, Piccini; Ceballos, Petros, Torres, Joaquin; Castro, Molina

Statistics

  • Sporting Gijon have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 4 home matches against Real Betis in all competitions
  • Real Betis have failed to win their 6 away matches in La Liga
  • Sporting Gijon have seen under 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 10 home matches in all competitions
  • Real Betis failed to keep clean sheet in 1 out of their last 10 matches away from home in all competitions
  • Real Betis won 11 of the 16 matches against Sporting Gijon in all competitions

Prediction

Sporting Gijon come into this game after a 2-1 defeat against Rayo Vallecano and are yet to win at home this season. The inability to score goals at home is a big concern for Sporting Gijon. The loss of Sanabria is another setback though the Barcelona loanee Halilovic is showing flashes of brilliance.

Real Betis were thrashed 5-0 by Real Madrid but ever since recovered to keep consecutive clean sheets. But, they have won only once in this season with a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad being their high point.

It would be a game between two sides which are struggling to find ways of scoring goals. This could be another low scoring affair and do not be surprised if it ends in a tame draw.
