Premier League football tips – Chelsea vs Southampton prediction

Now they are out of the Champions League, Chelsea must win the Premier League, if Jose Mourinho is going to be able to claim the season was a success. The only player missing from Chelsea’s squad for this match will be John Obi Mikel, as there were no new injuries picked up during the week. Chelsea are sure to field their strongest team but Juan Cuadrado come in to the starting line-up.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, must still make do without the injured duo of Jay Rodriguez and Emmanuel Mayuka. Defender Toby Aldeweireld could be back in the team, having started on the bench last week.

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Chelsea have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Southampton have scored an average of 0.8 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Chelsea’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Southampton’s previous 10 matches.
  • Southampton have only defeated Chelsea once, in their last 12 attempts.

Despite the disappointment of losing out to PSG in the Champions League, Chelsea are still on course to win the Premier League title this season. Jose Mourinho will need to motivate, both himself and his team, after what happened at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night but will realise that his team have a good run fixtures coming up.

Southampton have dropped out of the Champions League qualifying picture during recent weeks and would have been delighted to have picked up the 3 points against Crystal Palace last time out. Having said that, scoring goals has become a real problem for the Saints and a record of just 2 goals in their last 6 games, fails to inspire confidence heading to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have scored at least 1 goal in each of their last 23 games in all competitions and even though Southampton are likely to try and keep things tight, they should be able to do enough to keep all 3 points at Stamford Bridge.
