Premier League – Liverpool v Bournemouth Prediction

Roberto Firmino is expected to start this match at Anfield alongside Coutinho behind the lone striker. The Brazilian duo will be looking to emphasise just how tough the Premier League can be for those promoted from the previous season. The only other change Brendan Rodgers may opt for is the introduction of Emre Can as an anchor man in midfield in order to grant the other midfielders more freedom in attack.

Expect a start for Eddie Howe’s coup of the summer, Max Gradel. Jose Mourinho lauded the Ivorian international, claiming “Gradel could play for Chelsea”. Former Middlesbrough forward Lee Tomlin will also likely start, he is not a natural goal scorer by any means but expect him to cause problems in the hold behind the front man.

Possible Line-ups

Liverpool: 4-2-3-1 Formation: Mignolet; Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Gomez; Can, Henderson, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho; Benteke

Bournemouth: 4-4-1-1 Formation: Boruc; Francis, Cook, Elphick, Daniels; Ritchie, Gosling, Surman, Gradel; Tomlin, Wilson

  • Liverpool have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches.
  • Bournemouth have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Liverpool have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Bournemouth have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Liverpool’s previous 10 matches.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Bournemouth’s previous 10 matches.
  • These teams have met twice previously, Liverpool winning by two goals on both occasions.

The Anfield crowd will want goals from this game and perhaps a signal that Rodger’s side are close to the heights of the 2013/14 season. The squad has been improved, there is a greater balance and as proved last week, when games get tight there are proven match winners in the team. Benteke will relish this match, a home debut against a considerably weaker team. Capable of playing with him back to goal and getting in behind the defence, he will give the Bournemouth defenders problems all game.

It was not the fairy-tale start to their debut Premier League campaign that Bournemouth fans were wishing for; they did themselves no shame in a home 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa however. Max Gradel adds genuine pace and ability to a very solid outfit. It has been said that whilst Bournemouth do not possess the best squad on paper; their chemistry and style of football cannot be touched by their fellow promoted sides. They did win the Championship last season after all.

Bournemouth will give this a good crack however, Liverpool will simply be too strong in the season’s first Anfield fixture, expect a rowdy crowd in Merseyside and a player to open his Liverpool scoring account.

We say: Benteke to score first, Liverpool to win at 4/1 with Bet365
