Premier League League football tips – Manchester United vs Tottenham prediction

Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, has a few members of his squad missing for the first Premier League match of the 2015/16 season. Marouane Fellaini is suspended for the first three matches, Javier Hernandez is injured and Marcos Rojo has not long returned from extended leave, so all three will miss out. Bastian Schweinsteiger may have to settle for a place on the bench, due to fitness concerns.  However, the big news is that goalkeeper David De Gea will not feature, meaning a possible debut for Sergio Romero.

The good news for Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a return to the team from the substitutes bench against AC Milan and could start at Old Trafford. However, Spurs will have to make do without Andros Townsend, Alex Pritchard and Ryan Mason, who are all struggling for fitness.

Possible Line-ups

Manchester United: 4-2-3-1 formation: Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Young, Depay, Mata; Rooney

Tottenham: 4-2-3-1 formation: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Bentaleb; Eriksen, Dembele, Chadli; Kane

  • Man Utd have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Tottenham have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Manchester United have scored an average of 1 goal and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Tottenham have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Manchester United’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Tottenham’s previous 10 matches
  • Tottenham have only defeated Manchester United once, in their last 5 attempts

Last season, Manchester United opened up at Old Trafford with new manager Louis van Gaal in place and lost to Swansea. Having had a whole summer to prepare his team, there is no room for error for the Dutchman this time around. If Manchester United want to be considered as serious title contenders this season, they can not afford to drop points at home in the first match.

The target for Spurs this season, has to be Champions League qualification and what better way to signal their intent, than by picking something up at Old Trafford on the opening day. Pochettino has managed to keep hold of his important players and that continuity should help the team improve on last season.

Defensively, Manchester United have not made any improvements and this has to be worrying. Spurs have the ability to hurt them at the back but can they prevent a strong United forward line from breaching their own defence?

We say: Man Utd to win and both teams to score at 5/2 with Bet365
