Premier League football tips – Manchester United vs Tottenham prediction

Following his red card in the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal, Angel Di Maria is suspended for this match and joins Johnny Evans on the sidelines. Robin van Persie is still out through injury and Ashley Young is doubtful, meaning possible starts for Radamel Falcao and Adnan Januzaj. Otherwise, attacking midfielder Juan Mata could get a start, playing just behind Wayne Rooney.

Meanwhile, Spurs have not such injury or suspension concerns and will be at full strength for the visit to Old Trafford. Having been eliminated from the Europa League, Mauricio Pochettino can focus all efforts on qualifying for the Champions League through a top 4 Premier League finish.

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Man Utd have scored an average of 1.8 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Spurs have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Man Utd’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Spurs’ previous 10 matches.
  • Manchester United have failed to defeat Spurs in their previous 5 attempts.

Having recorded 2 successive victories in the Premier League after the defeat to Swansea City, Manchester United will be very disappointed to have lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final. Another poor team performance has left Louis van Gaal in a difficult position and anything but qualifying for the Champions League will be seen as a failure.

Spurs have bounced back well from defeat to Chelsea with 2 wins in a row and have their sights firmly set on a Champions League place themselves. Looking ahead, Spurs have a much easier run of fixtures than Manchester United and will consider a point at Old Trafford to be a good result.

As the season draws on, it gets more and more unlikely that Manchester United’s level of performance is going to improve. However, they have scored at least 1 goal in each of their last 9 matches and with Tottenham’s recent defensive record, Man Utd should be able to find the back of the net in this game. That being said, keeping Spurs out at the other end, will be a different proposition.
