Southampton take on Tottenham Hotspur in a televised Premier League match this Wednesday. Read the match predictions to find out why a draw is the betting tip at St Mary’s. Saints won 1-3 away to South coast rivals Bournemouth in their last match while Spurs ran out 2-1 winners at home to Burnley.

Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Southampton will be without injured quartet Jeremy Pied, Matt Targett, Jake Hesketh and Charlie Austin. Florin Gardos is also struggling for match fitness and is unlikely to be involved while Alex McCarthy is also a doubt. Steven Davis impressed in the win over Bournemouth and should get a start here. Jay Rodriguez bagged a brace in that match and will spearhead the attack.

Tottenham have question marks over a number of players here. Erik Lamela is hoping to have overcome a hip problem but could miss out along with Vincent Janssen. Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld also have fitness to prove but should feature from the start. Harry Kane has 7 goals so far this season and is the main attacking threat for the visiting side.

Team Predictions Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur

Southampton 4-3-3 formation: Forster; Soares, Fonte, van Dijk, Bertrand; Davis, Romeu, Clasie; Boufal, Rodriguez, Redmond

Tottenham 4-2-3-1 formation: Lloris; Rose, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker; Winks, Wanyama; Alli, Dembele, Eriksen; Kane

Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur Betting Tips

  • Southampton have won 4 drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Tottenham have won 5 drawn 1 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Southampton have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Tottenham have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Southampton’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Tottenham’s previous 10 matches

Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction

Southampton’s form has improved since their Europa League exit and they head into this game on a three-match unbeaten run. That started with a 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough before a drab 0-0 away to Stoke City. Saints did well to come from behind to beat Bournemouth last time and will be counting on their home advantage now back at St Mary’s.

Tottenham have dropped into the Europa League themselves and were arguably unlucky to lose 1-0 away to Manchester United three games back. Spurs made light work of Hull City, winning 3-0 and showed character to come from a goal behind to beat Burnley last time out.

Although Southampton scored 3 goals last time, I think they’ll revert to type here and try to contain Spurs. There have been under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 home matches and they’ve lost just once in the last 13 games at this venue. Tottenham have failed to win their last 5 away games and I can see this match ending as a draw.
