Premier League League football tips – Stoke vs Liverpool prediction

The main team news for Stoke, is the injury to captain Ryan Shawcross, which is a big blow to Mark Hughes and his team. Marko Arnautovic is also a major doubt for the game and Bojan is still working his way back to full fitness. There could be debuts for Glen Johnson and Joselu.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, has to make do without the injured trio of Joe Allen, Daniel Sturridge and Jon Flanagan. However, four of the summer signings are set to make their first competitive starts for the club, with Joe Gomez, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Christian Benteke likely to be in the starting XI. Depending on his condition after the Copa America, Roberto Firmino could also start.

Possible Line-ups

Stoke: 4-2-3-1 formation: Butland, Johnson, Muniesa, Wollscheid, Pieters; Cameron, Whelan; Walters, Adam, Diouf; Joselu

Liverpool: 4-3-3 formation: Mignolet, Clyne, Sakho, Skrtel, Gomez; Henderson, Milner, Coutinho; Lallana, Firmino, Benteke

  • Stoke have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Liverpool have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Stoke have scored an average of 1.8 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Liverpool have scored an average of 1.8 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Stoke’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Liverpool’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been 16 goals in the last three meetings between these teams

Stoke City and Mark Hughes, will be aiming to build on a solid 2014/15 season and the club have made some decent signings during the summer transfer window. The loss of Asmir Begovic was somewhat expected and Jack Butland should prove to be a more than adequate replacement in goal.

Liverpool have spent big once again during the off-season and a number of their new signings should start this match. With almost half of the starting XI being new faces, it will be interesting to see how they gel and operate as a team, in what will be a tough opening match of the season at the Britannia Stadium.

Memories of the final game of last season, will be fresh in the mind of both sets of supporters but the result is sure to be much closer this time around. However, Liverpool have not been that convincing against Stoke in recent years and it should be a close game, with plenty of goal mouth action.

We say: Draw and over 2.5 goals at 10/1 with Bet365
