Premier League preview – Swansea vs Stoke prediction

Kyle Naughton may continue to be absent from the squad, so Swansea manager Garry Monk will select Angel Rangel at right-back, if that proves to be the case. There are doubts over Andre Ayew but he should be OK to play some part and Ki Sung-yeung will hope to get the nod in central midfield ahead of Jack Cork.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes is still without central defender Ryan Shawcross and can now add goalkeeper Shay Given to the injury list. Striker Mame Biram Diouf will not travel with the squad to South Wales but Xherdan Shaqiri should be available for selection and play in a three behind Jonathan Walters.

Possible Line-ups

Swansea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Fabianski; Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor; Sung-Yeung, Shelvey; Montero, Sigurdsson, Ayew; Gomis

Stoke: 4-2-3-1 formation: Butland; Johnson, Cameron, Wollscheid, Pieters; Whelan, Adam; Shaqiri, Bojan, Arnautovic; Walters

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Swansea’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Swansea come in to this game 13th in the Premier League table, having picked up 10 points from their 8 games this season. However, Garry Monk’s team have not won any of their last 5 competitive matches and have tasted defeat at Southampton, Watford and Hull. That being said, Swansea come in to this match unbeaten at the Liberty Stadium, having played the likes of Everton, Tottenham and Manchester United.

Following a very slow start to the season, Stoke have started to turns things around, with some positive results. A 1-0 win at Fulham in the League Cup was followed by Premier League victories at home to Bournemouth and away to Aston Villa. Scoring goals has been a bit of problem, having netted just 8 in 8 games, only Watford and West Brom have a worse record. However, away from home, Stoke have only tasted defeat once this season and that was at Arsenal.

Swansea really need a win to get their season back on track and considering Stoke’s poor record against them, they may just sneak it.
