Premier League preview – West Brom vs Crystal Palace prediction.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis is sweating on defenders Craig Dawson and Gareth McAuley as he will be forced to make more changes at the back. Johnny Evans has been ruled out after suffering an injury in the FA Cup defeat at Reading on Saturday. James Blunt made his first start since returning from injury and may keep his place at left-back if James Chester is required for a central role. Saido Berahino is hoping to retain his place in the lineup having started in the last three games, albeit two were in the FA Cup. James Morrison and Callum McManaman are ruled out with injury.

Crystal Palace full-back Pape Souare is suspended for the trip to the Midlands and Martin Kelly is set to line up in the back four. Yannick Bolasie returned to the squad for last weekend’s FA Cup win at Tottenham while Bakary Sako is hoping to be fit which will give Alan Pardew some attacking options. Conor Whickham has struggled to make an impact since joining in the summer and has one penalty goal to show from 13 league appearances this season. Midfielder Jason Puncheon is not expected back until next month and James McArthur is out for the season.

Possible Line-ups

West Brom 4-2-3-1 formation: Foster; Dawson, McAuley, Olsson, Chester; Yacob, Fletcher; Sessegnon, Berahino, McClean; Rondon

Crystal Palace 4-4-2 formation: Hennessy; Ward, Dann, Delaney, Kelly; Zaha, Cabaye, Jedinak, Mutch; Wickham, Adebayor

Statistics

  • Crystal Palace have won 3 drawn 1 and lost 6 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, West Brom have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Crystal Palace have scored an average of 0.8 goals and conceded an average of 1.7 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of West Brom’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Crystal Palace’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

West Brom will try to shrug off the disappointing performance which saw them crash out of the FA Cup in a 3-1 defeat at Championship side Reading on Saturday. Instead, Tony Pulis will want to focus his players on the 1-0 victory at Everton in the previous week’s Premier League game. It was West Brom’s first win in 6 league games and stalled a drop towards to the relegation zone. Albion have only lost one of the last 7 at home but the last two league games at the Hawthorns produced draws against struggling Swansea City and bottom-of-the-league Aston Villa.

Crystal Palace’s FA Cup run has brought some much-needed cheer to the team who have not won in the league since 19 December. Palace have managed one point from the last seven games and like West Brom, are in danger of being drawn into the relegation battle. Palace have fared relatively well on the road this season, gaining 18 of their 32 points away from home. They have drawn two of the last four away and went home with a point from their last visit to the Hawthorns.

Both sides are struggling for a match winner and the best here looks to be the draw.
