West Ham United take on Chelsea in the EFL Cup this Wednesday. Read the match predictions to find out why Chelsea are the betting tip to progress to the next round.
West Ham vs Chelsea Preview
West Ham left it late but got the job done when Winston Reid netted in injury time to earn a 1-0 win at home to Sunderland over the weekend. Meanwhile Chelsea were in fine form and secured a runaway 4-0 win at home to Manchester United. The Hammers will have Aaron Cresswell back from suspension which could see Edmilson Fernandes drop back to the bench. Otherwise, Slaven Bilic is unlikely to want to tinker with his side after an upturn in fortunes in recent weeks. Chelsea will be without Branislav Ivanovic and Cesc Fabregas who both remain injured while John Obi Mikel could return to the squad. Diego Costa is one booking away from a suspension, so Antonio Conte may ponder resting the striker here.

West Ham vs Chelsea Prediction
West Ham eventually stopped the rot at their new stadium when holding Middlesbrough to a 1-1 draw. They then picked up a hard-fought 0-1 victory away to Crystal Palace before Saturday’s late show against Sunderland and will head into this game in buoyant mood. Chelsea bounced back from a humiliating defeat against Arsenal with a rudimentary 0-2 win away at newly promoted Hull City. Leicester were then sent packing after a 3-0 triumph before Sunday’s brilliant display against Man Utd, meaning it’s 9 goals without reply in three straight wins for the Blues. It’s fair to say that London Stadium has taken some getting used to for West Ham and nothing would settle the crowd like a victory over your local rivals. However, just 2 victories in the previous 22 meetings makes ominous reading for the hosts. Chelsea began the season with a 2-1 win over West Ham and I’m tipping a repeat of that scoreline here. The Hammers new found confidence may be enough for them to get on the scoresheet but I fancy Conte’s men to be too strong and get the victory.

Premier League preview – West Ham vs Chelsea prediction
West Ham have a couple of key players missing for this big Premier League clash, with defender Winston Reid and midfielder Alex Song both having been ruled out through injury. Victor Moses will also be forced to watch from the sidelines, as he is unable to play against his parent club. Therefore, Enner Valencia may get the chance to start for the first time this season.
Thibaut Courtois and Branislav Ivanovic remain unavailable for Jose Mourinho due to injury, meaning Asmir Begovic will remain in goal and the back four could be the same which kept a clean sheet at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night. Pedro is struggling to make it and that could mean Eden Hazard keeps his place in the starting XI.

Prediction
What can you say about West Ham this season? Fantastic away from home, with wins at Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Crystal Palace but still to find the same form in-front of their own fans. With just one win from four home Premier League games this season, it could start to become a real problem for Slaven Bilic, despite the fact the team sit in 4th place in the Premier League table. Perhaps West Ham simply prefer to play the part of the underdog, in which case, this could be the match in which to turn their home form around.
Chelsea have the opportunity to record back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season. They have kept clean sheets in their last two competitive games and will hope to continue that trend at West Ham, after a very poor start to the season at the back. However, Chelsea have won only two of their seven away matches and one of those wins came at Walsall in the League Cup. Jose Mourinho will hope his team do not have to come back from a two goal deficit, as they did in their last away Premier League match at Newcastle.
If West Ham can adopt their approach from away matches, they can certainly win this game, as Chelsea are still to convince this season.
