Serie A preview – Bologna vs Inter prediction

The only definite absentee for Bologna is Franco Zucculini. The midfielder is working his way back to fitness but will not play any part in the match. First choice goalkeeper Antonio Mirante could available again, having missed the match at the weekend and should reclaim his position in goal for Bologna.  However, Anthony Mounier remains doubtful and could be replaced in the team by Franco Brienza.

Inter are still without Nemanja Vidic, who has a long term injury and he won’t be part of the squad travelling to Bologna. Having played on Saturday and with a fixture coming up against Roma three days after this one, Roberto Mancini may choose to rotate his squad but Inter can not afford to drop any more points before that clash with the league leaders.

Possible Line-ups

Bologna: 4-3-3 formation: Mirante; Mbaye, Oikonomou, Gastaldello, Masina; Diawara, Rizzo, Donsah; Giaccherini, Destro, Brienza

Inter Milan: 4-3-1-2 formation: Handanovic; Santon, Miranda, Jesus, Telles; Melo, Medel, Guarin; Perisic; Icardi, Jovetic

Statistics

  • Bologna have won 2 and lost 8 of their last 10 matches
  • Inter have won 4, drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Bologna have scored an average of 0.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Inter have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Bologna’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Inter’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Bologna claimed only their second win of the season at the weekend, when they defeated bottom club Carpi 2-1, away from home. The win stopped a dreadful run of defeats, which saw Bologna lose four games in a row, scoring only two goals in the process. In fact, Bologna have the joint lowest number of goals scored in Serie A this season and required a last minute winner to pick up all 3 points at the weekend.

Inter have failed to win any of their last four Serie A matches and Roberto Mancini will be looking towards this game as the one to get back to winning ways. Another disappointing draw at the weekend, this time at Palermo, has left Inter 2 points off Roma, who top the table. Despite having the best defensive record in Serie A, scoring goals is still a problem for Inter and Roma have hit the back of the net 13 times more than Mancini’s men, something which will need to change if they are to challenge.

Despite their win at the weekend, Bologna will struggle to break down Inter’s defence and although Inter aren’t scoring freely themselves, they should be able to come away with maximum points.
