Serie A preview – Juventus vs Torino prediction

Juventus are without key central defender Giorgio Chiellini after his sending off at Sassuolo in mid-week. Max Allegri will also have to make do without Stephan Lichtsteiner at the back, which could mean a back four featuring Martin Caceres at right-back and three in midfield.

Torino still have a long list of players unavailable due to injury. Danilo Avelar, Pontus Jansson, Alexander Farnerud, Nikola Maksimovic, Joel Obi and Alessandro Gazzi are all out. Therefore, manager Giampiero Ventura is likely to stick with a 3-5-2 formation, with the possibility of a couple of changes in midfield.

Possible Line-ups

Juventus: 4-3-3 formation: Buffon; Caceres, Bonucci, Barzagli, Evra; Khedira, Pogba, Marchisio; Cuadrado, Dybala, Morata

Torino: 3-5-2 formation: Padelli; Bovo, Glik, Moretti; Peres, Vives, Baselli, Benassi, Molinaro; Quagliarella, Lopez

Statistics

  • Juventus have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Torino have won 4, drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Juventus have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Torino have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Juventus’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Torino’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

There was another set-back for Juventus in mid-week as they went down 1-0 at Sassuolo. It was Juventus’ fourth defeat of the season and means they have won only three of their ten matches in Serie A. They have won just one of their last four games in all competitions and scored only two goals during that time. Max Allegri will need to see much more from his team going forward, if they are to take the points in the derby.

After a good start to the Serie A season, Torino have failed to win any of their last four matches. Conceding goals has become a real problem for the team and they have shipped nine goals in their last four games. Away form in particular has been poor for Torino, managing just one win from five games, including defeats in all of their last three.

This is a tough one to call, with neither team in good form but Juventus could snatch the win they desperately need.
