Serie A football tips – Sampdoria vs Carpi prediction

New Sampdoria manager Walter Zenga, has a number of players out with injury for their first match of the new Serie A season. Nenad Krsticic, Lorenzo De Silvestri, Joaquin Correa and Djamel Mesbah are all on the sidelines and in addition to them, Bartosz Salamon is suspended. Antonio Cassano is likely to take his place on the bench.

Carpi have tried to bring in a group of players with Serie A experience and may opt for a 3-5-2 formation to start the season, packing the midfield. The only definite absentee looks to be Lorenzo Lollo, with every other player fit and available for selection.

Possible Line-ups

Sampdoria: 4-3-1-2 formation: Viviano; Cassani, Moisander, Silvestre, Zukanovic; Fernando, Palombo, Barreto; Soriano; Eder, Muriel

Carpi: 3-5-2 formation: Brkic; Gaglioli, Bubnjic, Romagnoli; Letizia, Fedele, Marrone, Lazzari, Silva; Mbakogu, Ryder

  • Sampdoria have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Carpi have won 3, drawn 3 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sampdoria have scored an average of 1.8 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Carpi have scored an average of 0.6 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Sampdoria’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Carpi’s previous 10 matches
  • This will be Carpi’s first season in Serie A

Sampdoria have had a mixed start to the season, beginning with a dreadful 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Vojvodina in Europa League qualifying. Walter Zenga’s team performed better in the second leg, winning 2-0 but still went out on aggregate. Expect Sampdoria to have a mixed season, with the potential to finish in the upper reaches of mid-table, if things go to plan, however, with the current set-up, anything could happen.

This will be the first Serie A match in the history of Carpi and it’s a difficult trip to take on Sampdoria, at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Carpi have tried to bring in players with Serie A experience, in order to help the team which gained promotion last season. However, many of the new players are on loan and it will be interesting to see exactly how they all come together as a team. Carpi will try to enjoy their first season in Serie A but a battle against relegation is on the cards.

Sampdoria should be able to create enough chances to take all three points.

We say: Sampdoria to win and under 2.5 goals at 11/4 with Bet365
