Serie A preview – Udinese vs Roma prediction.

Udinese right-back Ivan Piris picked up his fifth yellow card in the 2-0 defeat at Frosinone last weekend and will sit out Sunday’s visit of Roma. Brazilian Edenilson could return to his favourite position or Stefano Colantuano may opt to use Silvan Widmer who usually operates in midfield. Centre-back Thomas Heurtaux is expected to come in for Felipe who has a knee injury while fellow central defender Molle Wague faces a late fitness test after missing the last match with a hamstring strain. Francesco Lodi is set to come into central midfield for injured Guilherme and Maurizio Domizzi could be available after returning to training with the main squad.

Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan continues his battle with groin strain and is doubtful for Sunday. Miralem Pjanic received treatment on an ankle knock before joining the team in training and will be tested again prior to kick off. Daniele De Rossi is back in training and could be available after a month on the sidelines. Antonio Rudiger and Norbert Gyomber are unavailable as they continue to recover from injury.

Possible Line-ups

Udinese 4-3-3 formation: Karnezis; Edenilson, Danilo, Heurtaux, Ali Adnan; Agyemang-Badu, Guilherme, Kuzmanovic; Fernandes, Di Natale, Thereau

Roma 4-3-3 formation: Sczcesny; Florenzi, Manolas, Zukanovic, Digne; Pjanic, Perotti, Keita; Salah, Dzeko, El Shaarawy

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Udinese’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Udinese defeated bottom-of-the-league Verona 2-0 in their last home game, the only victory in a run of 10 games that has seen Colantuono’s side pick up just 6 points and slump to 16th in Serie A.  Last weekend’s defeat in Frosinone was a six-pointer that brought the 18th-placed side to within four points of Udinese and two weeks previously, Genoa leapfrogged Udinese with a 2-1 home victory.

Roma look to bounce back after being knocked out of the Champions League 4-0 on aggregate by Real Madrid. Luciano Spalletti’s men have won 7 consecutive games in Serie A and can now focus on chasing down second-placed Napoli who are 5 points ahead. Roma have won the last five meetings with Udinese and bid for a hat-trick of wins in Udine.

Roma won 1-0 on the last two visits to Stadio Friuli but are creating enough chances to win by a bigger margin this weekend.
