Wimbledon Predictions | Men’s Quarter-finals

Andy Murray comes up against Vasek Pospisil, the conqueror of fellow British player James Ward, in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

Murray looked good in his victory over the big serving Croat, Ivo Karlovic in round four. The number three seed knew what he was going to be up against and tailored his game well, in order to defeat Karlovic. After the match, Murray commented on how the match was tiring in a mental way, rather than physical, with many points being won early. With 62 winners and some superb passing shots, Murray will be confident of overcoming his quarter-final opponent, Vasek Pospisil.

Pospisil secured his place in the last eight, thanks to another thrilling five set win, this time over Viktor Troicki. It’s the first time the Canadian has reached this stage of any Grand Slam and his first serve points won against Troicki was very impressive. However, it’s the return of serve that will be giving Pospisil cause for concern and Murray should have more than enough to win this match.

Murray is 2/5 with Bet365 to win in straight sets and 3/1 to win in four, which has been the scoreline in his previous two matches.

Seven time Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer, breezed in to the quarter-finals thanks to a comprehensive three set win over Roberto Bautista Agut. It was a real ‘Rolls-Royce’ of a performance from the Swiss, who took just 86 minutes to win the match and won 46% of his receiving points.

Federer’s opponent, Gilles Simon, also had a comfortable match in the fourth round, defeating Tomas Berdych in three sets. The Frenchman was also returning brilliantly, winning 43% of his receiving points and made just 11 unforced errors during the match. If Simon can keep up the same consistency against Federer, he will give himself a chance.

However, Simon has lost his last five matches against Federer and is in to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the first time in his career. Not only will it be a challenging match technically for the Frenchman, it will be tough mentally too.

Federer has dropped just one set in the tournament so far and could so again in this match but the second seed should come through here and is 11/4 to do so in four sets.

Federer’s fellow countryman, Stan Wawrinka is still on course to make it two major titles in a row, as he takes on the Richard Gasquet in the quarter-finals. Wawrinka has yet to drop a set at Wimbledon this year and is arguably the form man in men’s tennis at the moment. Wawrinka continues to make a lot of unforced errors but is playing aggressive tennis, a style which is obviously working for him at the moment.

Gasquet came through a fiesty match with Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round, which saw both players losing their temper at times. Nonetheless, Gasquet showed great mental strength to come through the match and is a good grass court player. However, Wawrinka looks determined and the world number four is 5/1 to go through in a five sets.

Wawrinka is currently priced at 8/1 with Bet365 to win Wimbledon 2015.
