Serie A preview – Sampdoria vs Roma prediction

The main injury concern for Sampdoria is midfielder Angelo Palombo. The Italian missed the trip to play Torino on the weekend and is rated doubtful for this match. With Andrea Coda, Mattia Cassani and Lorenzo De Silvestri still out injured, Sampdoria could field a similar line-up to their last match.

Striker Edin Dzeko should return to the Roma starting XI for this one, with Francesco Totti dropping to the bench despite scoring at the weekend. Iago Falque may also come in to the team having come on from the bench against Sassuolo but Wojciech Szczesny and Kevin Strootman are still injured.

Possible Line-ups

Sampdoria: 4-3-1-2 formation: Viviano; Pereira, Silvestre, Moisander, Regini; Ivan, Fernando, Baretto; Soriano; Muriel, Eder

Roma : 4-3-3 formation: De Sanctis; Florenzi, Castan, Manolas, Torosidis; Nainggolan, De Rossi, Pjanic; Falque, Dzeko, Salah

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Roma ‘s previous 10 matches
  • Sampdoria have lost just 2 of their last 21 home Serie A matches

Prediction

Sampdoria would have hoped to have taken at least a point from their away trip to Torino on the weekend but have been strong at home for some time now. That being said, this season Sampdoria have only played at home against teams who were playing in Serie B last season, therefore, Roma should offer a much tougher test.

Roma have made a good start to the season but lost ground on the leaders as they were held 2-2 at home by Sassuolo on Sunday. Good home performances against Juventus and Barcelona have shown that Roma are capable of mixing it with the big boys again this season and this match will be another test of their credentials.

This has the makings of being a close game, with plenty of goal-mouth action. A scoring draw would not be a surprise outcome.
