Europa League preview – PAOK vs Dortmund prediction

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov may come in from the start for PAOK, in a game they will want to win in order to progress from the group. Otherwise, manager Igor Tudor may opt to go for the same starting XI which played in match day one in Qabala.

Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has a big decision to make regarding his team, with the match against Bayern Munich looming on the weekend. Experienced goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller may get a start, as could Adnan Janujaz and Joo-Ho Park.

Possible Line-ups

PAOK: 4-3-3 formation: Olsen; Kitsiou, Vitor, Costa, Tzavellas; Sabo, Tziolis, Pelekas; Mak, Athanasiadis, Berbatov

Dortmund: 4-1-4-1 formation: Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Sokratis, Hummels, Schmelzer; Bender; Park, Castro, Mkhitaryan, Januzaj; Aubameyang

Statistics

  • PAOK have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Dortmund have won 8 and drawn 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, PAOK have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Dortmund have scored an average of 3.2 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of PAOK’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Dortmund’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

PAOK’s record against German opposition is not great and they have not beaten a German team since 1981. However, home form this season has been very good and they have won all 3 of their Europa League qualifying home matches, netting 12 goals in the process. In fact, PAOK are undefeated at home in all competitions this season and will want to keep that run going.

Dortmund started the season in blistering fashion but things have started to slow down over the past week. A draw at Hoffenheim, followed up by a draw at home with Darmstadt has allowed Bayern Munich to build up a lead ahead of their meeting on Sunday. However, Dortmund are still scoring goals at a good rate and will believe they have enough to come away from Greece with the win.

Home advantage is always a factor but Dortmund will be desperate to get back to winning ways before the weekend and should have enough to get the win.
