Serie A preview – Sassuolo vs Juventus prediction

Sassuolo look set to be without goalkeeper Andrea Consigli, meaning a place in the starting XI for Gianluca Pegolo. Eusebio Di Francesco will also have to make do without defender Luca Antei and midfielder Alfred Duncan, the latter of which has been heavily involved this season.

Juventus have Stephan Lichtsteiner, Martin Caceres, Roberto Pereyra and Kwadwo Asamoah all out with injury but manager Max Allegri may still find room for some rotation. The likes of Hernanes, Juan Cuadrado and Alvaro Morata, who all started on the bench at the weekend, could come in to the team.

Possible Line-ups

Sassuolo: 4-3-3 formation: Pegolo; Peluso, Cannavaro, Acerbi, Vrsaljko; Missiroli, Magnanelli, Laribi; Berardi, Defrel, Flores

Juventus: 4-3-1-2 formation: Buffon; Padoin, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Khedira, Pogba, Marchisio; Hernanes; Dybala, Morata

Statistics

  • Sassuolo have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Juventus have won 5, drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sassuolo have scored an average of 1.4 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Juventus have scored an average of 1.4 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Sassuolo’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Juventus’ previous 10 matches

Prediction

Sassuolo come in to this match sitting comfortably in 6th place in Serie A, after a good start to the season. However, Di Francesco’s team have only won one of their last four Serie A matches and suffered their second defeat in three games at the weekend. The 2-1 defeat in Milan also means that Sassuolo have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches and this a run they will be aiming to stop against Juventus.

Juventus seem to be finding some form after a very slow start this season. Undefeated in their last five games in all competitions, Juventus have kept a clean sheet in their last three matches but have only managed to score two goals themselves over the same period of time. However, those two goals did come at the weekend, in the 2-0 win over Atalanta, which has lifted Juventus to 12th in the Serie A table.

Only Inter have a better defensive record than Juventus in Serie A and Sassuolo do not have a good record when playing the champions. This could be a low scoring away victory.
