Serie A preview – Lazio vs Verona prediction.

Lazio confirmed full back Dusan Basta will be sidelined for 7 to 10 days after pulling out of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Genoa at half time with a hamstring injury. As a result, former Barcelona B defender Patric is in line for his full debut. Alessandro Matri is eligible having served a two-match ban for being sent off against Udinese and is likely to start on the bench with Filip Dordevic the preferred striker. Antonio Candreva has shaken off the ankle sprain that kept him out last weekend and could be ready to play on the right wing. Stefan Radu and January signing Milan Bisevac are doubtful while Lucas Biglia and Stefan de Vrij remain sidelined.

Verona right back Eros Pisano scored his third goal of the campaign in the 3-3 draw against Inter to go level with legendary striker Luca Toni and one behind Giampaolo Pazzini as the club’s leading scorers this season. Luca Siligardi is having to take things day to day after an examination revealed damage to the thigh muscle in his left leg. Midfielder Frederico Viviani is out until later this month with an ankle injury and defender Samuel Souprayen is recovering from a similar issue.

Possible Line-ups

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Verona have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Lazio’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Verona’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Lazio have failed to score in the last three games, losing 2-0 at home to Napoli either side of 0-0 draws at Udinese and Genoa. The club’s home record has lost its shine recently too. Stefano Pioli’s side has only won one league game in the Olympic Stadium since the end of October in which time it has drawn three and lost three. Lazio have dropped two points against the bottom three sides so far, having defeated Frosinone 2-0 and drawn 0-0 with Carpi in Rome while defeating Friday’s opponents 2-1 in Verona.

Verona have failed to win 25 of their last 26 matches and have one draw and six defeats to show from 7 away games against Lazio. However, their last trip to the Olympic Stadium sparked a turnaround in Verona’s fortunes. Giampaolo Pazzini converted a penalty to earn a 1-1 draw against fifth-placed Roma on 17 January to spark a run of five games without defeat. The 2-1 victory over Atalanta last Wednesday is the only win in this run which has resulted in draws at home to Genoa and Inter plus a 0-0 draw at mid-table Torino.

Verona are no longer a pushover and with Lazio struggling to appease their home fans, Luigi Deleri’s side could extend their unbeaten run.
