Serie A preview – Lazio vs Napoli prediction.

Six Lazio players have been sidelined with injury or suspension in the last two games leaving coach Stefan Piolo with almost a full team out of action. Alessandro Matri, Danilo Cataldi and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are suspended for the visit of the league leaders while the injury list includes first team regulars Ricardo Kishna, Filip Dordevic, Lucas Biglia and Stefan Radu. With only two fit forwards available, veteran Miroslav Klose is likely to join 20-year-old Baldi Keita in attack.

Napoli are also affected by suspensions for the trip to Rome with Elseid Hysaj and Allan Loureiro serving one-match bans. Alberto Grassi is out with a knee problem while Mauro Sarri will keep a watchful eye on Gonzalo Higuain’s shoulder. The Argentinian striker was passed fit to play in the 5-1 defeat of Empoli on Sunday but was substituted once the game looked to be won.

Prediction

Lazio are unbeaten in the last seven games in Serie A in which time they have won one (Chievo 4-1) and drawn two (Carpi and Sampdoria) at home. Piolo’s side has only played two of the top six at the Olympic Stadium so far this term, losing 3-1 against Milan in November and 2-0 against Juventus a month later. However, Lazio are capable of springing a surprise as shown when winning at Inter and Fiorentina either side of the winter break.

Napoli are driven by the threat of Juventus and have put together a run of six consecutive league wins to remain two points ahead of the reigning champions at the top of Serie A. Sarri’s men have rattled in 17 goals in the last four league games and will relish taking on a weakened Lazio side who lost the reverse fixture 5-0 in September.

Napoli are missing two key players but Lazio’s problems look much bigger and it will be a surprise if they can snap the league leaders’ winning streak.
