Atletico Madrid meet city rivals Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why a home win is the betting tip in this Spanish football match. Atleti lost 2-0 away to Real Sociedad before the international break while Los Blancos won 3-0 at home to Leganes.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid are sweating on the fitness of star striker Antoine Griezmann but it’s though he should shake off the foot injury he sustained on international duty and make the starting lineup. Yannick Carrasco is in great form and will be a real danger from the left-flank and there should be minimal changes to Diego Simeone’s side. Alessio Cerci and Augusto Fernández remain sidelined through injury.

Real Madrid could be without 5 key players for this one. Toni Kroos and Alvaro Morata both have long-term injuries and the game comes too soon for Casemiro. Karim Benzema and Pepe are both doubtful but Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric have been cleared to play. An unfit Benzema may be risked here due to a lack of alternatives.

Team Predictions Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid 4-4-2 formation: Oblak; Luis, Godin, Savic, Juanfran; Carradco, Gabi, Koke, Niguez; Griezmann, Gameiro

Real Madrid 4-3-2-1 formation: Navas; Marcelo, Ramos, Varane, Carvajal; Kovacic, Modric; Ronaldo, Isco, Bale; Benzema

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid Betting Tips

  • Atletico Madrid have won 7 drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Real Madrid have won 6 drawn 4 and lost 0 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 3.5 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Atletico Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid Prediction

Atletico Madrid’s away form is proving to be their achilles heel but they’re at home for this one where they’ve recently beaten Malaga 4-2 in La Liga and Rostov 2-1 in the Champions League. They have won 11 of their last 12 at Estadio Vicente Calderon, so are not to be taken lightly on their own turf.

Real Madrid kept their first clean sheet in 11 matches in the win over Leganes. That was preceded by an unlikely 3-3 draw away to Legia Warsaw in the Champions League and a 1-4 victory over Alaves in La Liga. The visitors have only beaten Atletico once in regulation time in the past 13 meetings.

The international break came at just the right time for Los Colchoneros who can regroup while Los Blancos are still plagued by injuries. It’s clear that Real Madrid struggle to keep clean sheets and often win by outscoring their opponents but that’s no easy task against Atleti. The hosts are unbeaten at home this season, so are taken to edge this and get back in the title race.

Spanish La Liga preview – Atletico Madrid Vs Real Madrid prediction

For Atletico Madrid, Koke is still out of action and is in doubt for the game. In case he does, it would be in place of Niguez. Jackson Martinez is yet to convince Diego Simeone that he could start which would mean another start for Fernando Torres.

For Real Madrid, Pepe is ruled out and Sergio Ramos could be rushed into action at centre-back. James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale and Danilo are close to fitness and could be pushing for berths. Mateo Kovacic could continue in the number 10 role after impressing in the last couple of games.

Possible Line-ups

Atletico Madrid: 4-4-2 formation: Oblak; Luis, Godin, Gimenez, Juanfran; Niguez, Gabi, Tiago, O. Torres; F. Torres, Griezmann

Real Madrid: 4-2-3-1 formation: Navas; Marcelo, Varane, Ramos, Carvajal; Kroos, Modric; Ronaldo, Kovacic, Isco; Benzema

Statistics

  • Atletico are undefeated in 35 of their last 38 home matches in La Liga
  • Atletico kept a clean sheet in 6 of their last 8 home matches in La Liga
  • Atletico kept a clean sheet in their last 4 home matches against Real Madrid in all competitions
  • Real Madrid are undefeated in their last 16 matches in La Liga
  • Real Madrid kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 6 matches in La Liga
  • Real Madrid scored at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches in La Liga
  • Atletico are undefeated in their last 5 home matches against Real Madrid in all competitions

Prediction

Diego Simeone started pretty solidly in La Liga but the loss to Villarreal set them back in the table. They followed it up with a loss to Benfica at home in the midweek Champions League match. The Argentine would hope that his side will bring back the steel that made them pile up three consecutive clean sheets in the matches before Villarreal game.

Rafa Benitez side is gaining momentum and are still unbeaten in the league. Ronaldo has not yet hit the high standards he usually sets in La Liga; this could be good news for the visitors as they are able to win points even without his stellar contributions.

Derbies are very difficult to predict especially the Madrid derbies. Under Simeone, Atletico have shown the tenacity to shut Real Madrid down and grind out results. This time too, he could come out trumps for the home team.

Champions League football tips – Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid prediction.

The major team news for Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid is the return to fitness of striker Mario Mandzukic. The 28 year old Croatian has 12 goals in 24 games this season and will provide a strong focal point to Atletico’s attacks, with Antoine Griezmann providing support going forward.

Gareth Bale should be fit for Real Madrid and Pepe will take his place at the heart of the Real Madrid defence. With James now returning to fitness, it could be Isco who is the unlucky one to miss out in midfield, unless Bale fails to make it.

Probable Line-ups

Atletico Madrid: 4-4-2 formation: Moya; Siqueira, Godin, Miranda, Juanfran; Koke, Tiago, Gabi, Turan; Griezmann, Mandzukic

Real Madrid: 4-3-3 formation: Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Kroos, Modric, James, Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema

  • Atletico Madrid have won 5, drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Real Madrid have won 6, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 0.4 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 2.5 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Atletico Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • The last time these teams met, Atletico ran out 4-0 winner in La Liga

With the chances of Atletico retaining their La Liga title fading by the week, the Champions League is now their best chance of lifting silverware this season. Diego Simeone’s team are undefeated in 8 games and have only lost once at home in the last 12 games played at the Vicente Calderon, including a 4-0 victory over Real Madrid. In fact, Atletico have not tasted defeat at the hands of their local rivals in any of their last 6 meetings.

Real Madrid remain in the hunt for the La Liga title, after closing the gap to Barcelona to just 2 points on the weekend. However, Real Madrid’s recent away record is not great, losing 5 of their last 10 games on the road, including 2 defeats at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Considering the recent games between these two, it appears that Real Madrid have still to work out a way to play against Atletico, especially at the Vicente Calderon. Carlo Ancelotti’s team know that they can not afford to come away with another heavy defeat like their previous visit but all the signs are there for another famous win for Diego Simeone.

Atletico Madrid to win at 15/8 with Bet365
