La Liga preview – Atletico Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna prediction.

Augusto Fernandez has served his suspension and can return to midfield with Matias Kranevitter dropping back to the bench. Fernando Torres missed training earlier in the week and Atletico have stated the striker will undergo further treatment on a swollen knee before a decision is made on his participation on Saturday. Centre-back Stefan Savic will miss out as he recovers from a calf injury and Thiago’s return from a broken leg has been put back with the midfielder now targeting late April for his comeback.

Leading scorer Lucas Perez hit the equaliser in the 3-3 draw between Deportivo and Malaga on Saturday but was withdrawn soon afterwards suffering with a thigh problem and is a slight doubt. Right-back Juanfran reported to the club doctor with calf trouble in midweek and he is racing against time along with central defender Sidnei and midfielder Juan Dominguez who are close to recovering from hamstring injuries. Veteran left winger Cani will be available for selection after successfully going through his paces in training.

Prediction

Atletico have won five and drawn one of the last six La Liga games and have only lost once at home in the league this season. Eibar are the only team to have scored in the last six league games at Vicente Calderon although Sevilla and Villarreal have both managed to take a share of the points this year.

Deportivo have gone 12 league games without a win and have developed a reputation as draw specialists with 15 of their 28 games finishing all square, including a 2-2 draw at Barcelona in December. Victor Sanchez’ side held Atletico to a 1-1 draw in their first meeting this term but have had little luck in the reverse fixture, losing on their last nine visits to Vicente Calderon.

Deportivo’s last trip to Madrid ended in a 5-0 mauling from Real and while Atletico should win, they may not be so ruthless.
