La Liga preview – Real Sociedad vs Deportivo La Coruna prediction.

It is taking longer than expected for Asier Illarramendi to shake off an ankle sprain and the Real Sociedad midfielder is a doubt for the visit of Deportivo on Saturday. Coach Eusebio Sacristan is having to cope without a number of key players, top scorer Imanol Agirretxe is expected to be out of action for another week with an ankle problem while attacking midfielder Sergio Canales faces an extended absence after damaging a cruciate ligament against Real Madrid late last month. Midfield duo David Zurutuza and Estaban Granero are also sidelined while central defender Raul Navas has not figured since signing from Eibar in the summer due to a hip injury.

Deportivo coach Victor Sanchez can stick with the same eleven that has started the previous three league games which means club captain Laure may have to settle for a place on the bench once again. There is no sign of a return for midfielder Celso Borges who has been out of action since mid-November with a foot injury.

Possible Line-ups

Real Sociedad: 4-3-3 formation: Rulli; C. Martinez, Elustando, I. Martinez, Yuri; Prieto, Bergara, Pardo; Vela, Jonathas, Bruma

Deportivo: 4-2-3-1 formation: Lux; Juanfran, Arribas, Sidnei, Navarro; Bergantinos, Mosquera; Cartabia, Alberto, Fajr; Perez

  • Deportivo have won 2 drawn 5 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Sociedad have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Deportivo have scored an average of 1 goal and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Real Sociedad’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Deportivo’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Brazilian striker Jonathas has stepped up in the absence of Agirretxe scoring both goals in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Valencia which ended a run of four La Liga games without a win for Real Sociedad. It was Sociedad’s third home win of the season and all three have come in the last four games at Anoeta. Sevilla (2-0) and Eibar (2-1) were sent home with nothing to show for their visit while fourth-placed Villarreal managed to plunder all three points with a 2-0 victory.

Deportivo went into the winter break on a run of nine games unbeaten. They were able to extend it to ten games when playing a goalless draw at Getafe on 30 December but have lost the last two and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by second division Mirandes. Sanchez’ side has drawn more games than any other team in La Liga (9 from 19) with five draws coming from 10 away games.

The last three meetings between the sides have ended all square and it looks a fair bet at current odds for Saturday’s game to go the same way.
