Champions League preview – Bayer Leverkusen vs BATE Borisov prediction

Bayer Leverkusen have had some injuries to contend with over the course of the season so far, the most recent one being to full back Roberto Hilbert who is a doubt with a knee injury. The injuries coupled with the loss of players such as Heung-Min Son and Gonzalo Castro could perhaps be the cause of their bad form having lost their last three games.

BATE will be without one of their prolific strikers for their opening game subsequent to Vitali Rodionov sustaining a knee injury, who has nine league goals in seventeen games. BATE have lots of capable players who can score goals from midfield: Karnitskiy and Gordeychuk are examples. This will instil confidence within the players as they eye up an out of form Leverkusen team.

Possible Line-ups

Bayer Leverkusen: 4-4-2 formation: Leno; Wendell, Tah, Papadopoulos, Donati; Mehmedi, Çalhanoğlu, Bender, Bellarabi; Kiessling, Hernández

BATE Borisov: 4-2-3-1 formation: Chernik; Zhavnerchik, Polyakov, Milunović, Mladenović; Aleksievich, A. Volodko; Stasevich, Karnitskiy, Gordeychuk; Signevich

Prediction

After two losses on the bounce Bayer Leverkusen sit at 13th in the Bundesliga. The manager will be reminding them not to take their eye off the ball against a good BATE side who will be keen to take their chances. The signing of Javier Hernandez is a shrewd move considering he is a proven poacher in the box.

Borisov are top of the Belarusian League with a lead of eight points. Despite some shaky form over the last few games they still look very solid in defence. If they can pounce on Bayer’s poor form they will be in with a shout of causing an upset.

It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see BATE come away with at least a point in this match, although they will be cautious of Leverkusen hitting back after a bad run of form.
