Champions League preview – Borussia M.Gladbach vs Manchester City prediction

Gladbach only have a couple of injury worries ahead of this game. Martin Stranzl is definitely out and Tony Jantschke is rated as doubtful. With that in mind, new Gladbach manager Andre Schubert could name exactly the same starting XI which won on the weekend.

Manchester City may once again be without captain Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala in defence. This means another start for Martin Demichelis and Nicolas Otamendi. Joe Hart will return in goal but although close to a return to the team, Pablo Zabaleta will probably be on the bench. Importantly for City going forward, David Silva should be back.

Possible Line-ups

Borussia M.Gladbach: 4-4-2 formation: Sommer; Korb, Christensen, Dominguez, Wendt; Herrmann, Dahoud, Xhaka, Johnson; Raffael, Stindl

Manchester City: 4-2-3-1 formation: Hart; Sagna, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov; Toure, Fernadinho; De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling; Aguero

Prediction

After a dreadful start to their Champions League campaign in Seville, losing 3-0, Gladbach have made a managerial change and it seems to have worked. The team have won their last 2 Bundesliga matches, which were their first in the league this season and scored 7 goals in the process. It seems as though some of their swagger from last season has finally returned and just at the right time.

Having started the season superbly, Manuel Pellegrini now finds himself under pressure once more. With 3 defeats from their last 4 games, City’s form has taken a real dip and their defeat at Tottenham on the weekend, showed how weak they currently are defensively. Sergio Aguero is yet to get going this season and if Manchester City want to take something from this game, the Argentine will need to deliver.

Nobody would have thought a few weeks ago, that Gladbach would be the form team coming in to this match but they are. The way Manchester City played on the weekend and with their European form in general, it’s difficult to see them heading home with anything from this game.
