Premier League preview – Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City prediction

Ryan Mason is still recovering from a knock and is unlikely to feature in the lunchtime clash between Spurs and City so Delle Alli is expected to continue in midfield. Danish international Christian Eriksen could make his first league start of the season after being selected against Arsenal mid week but Nabil Bentaleb and Moussa Dembelle will miss out through injury.
City captain Vincent Kompany is set to return to the team and will be partnered by Nicolas Otamendi due to the absence of Equiliam Mangala through injury. The table toppers have a host of other names on the treatment table including Gael Clichy and Fabian Delphi while Pablo Zabaleta, Samir Nasri, Kelechi Iheanacho, David Silva and Wilfred Bony are all doubts.
Possible Line-ups
Spurs:  4-2-3-1 formation:  Lloris; Walker, Alderwiereld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Alli; Chadli, Eriksen, Son; Kane
City:  4-2-3-1 formation:  Hart; Sagna, Otamendi, Kompany, Kolarov; Toure, Fernadinho; De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling; Aguero
Statistics
  • Spurs have won 4, drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • City have won 7, drawn 0 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Spurs have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, City have scored an average of 2.7 goals and conceded an average of 1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Spurs’ previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of City’s previous 10 matches

Prediction
City are the clear favourites in this one. Having lost their first game last week at home to West Ham, expect a response from Manuel Pellegrini’s side who looked unstoppable in their first five matches.
Spurs on the other hand have been struggling for goals, netting only five times in their six games and last season’s talisman Harry Kane is yet to score. Coming up against City’s star studded defence will be a tough test for the North London club and they will certainly be tested at the other end of the pitch as well.
I would not expect this to be a particularly high scoring game unless Tottenham are on the receiving end of a thrashing.
