Bundesliga preview – Mainz v Werder Bremen prediction

Mainz will again have a choice to make between Leon Balogun and Daniel Brosinski at right back with Pierre Bengtsson likely to start at left full back. Danny Latza will be chosen to replace the injured Fabian Frei in the centre of midfield with Christoph Moritz forced to settle for a spot on the bench as Martin Schmidt names an unchanged side.

Werder Bremen have Alejandro Galvez accompanying Vestergaard in the centre of defence but have the option of Assani Lukimya. Philipp Bargfrede returns from his suspension to take his place in defensive midfield. With Aron Johannsson still unavailable through injury Fin Bartels could play further forward and partner Anthony Ujah in an unchanged starting XI.

Possible Line-ups

Mainz: 4-2-3-1 formation: Karius; Balogun, Bungert, Bell, Bengtsson; Baumgartlinger, Latza; Clemens, Malli, Samperio; Muto

Werder Bremen: 4-3-1-2 formation: Wiedwald; Selassie, Galvez, Vestergaard, Garcia; Fritz, Bargfrede, Garcia; Junuzovic; Bartels, Ujah

Prediction

Mainz currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga but have been in good form at home, even though they have suffered defeats in their last two home games, Dortmund and Bayern will do that to most teams in the league. In Malli and Muto Mainz have an attacking partnership that understands one another and they could heap more misery on Werder Bremen this weekend.

Werder Bremen are 16th in the Bundesliga just two points off the bottom of the table. They are currently on a terrible run losing their last 5 league games which will be a concern given the fact that in 4 of those defeats they have failed to score. Mainz have scored almost double the amount of goals Bremen have managed, so it could be another difficult away day for the fans.

Another difficult game ahead for Bremen, their lack of goals could cost them in this one, with Yunus Malli pulling the strings for Mainz expect there to be chances. Comfortable Mainz win with more pressure on Bremen.
