Bundesliga preview – FSV Mainz 05 vs Borussia Dortmund prediction

Mainz will again have a choice to make between Leon Balogun and Daniel Brosinski at right back with Pierre Bengtsson likely to replace Gonzalo Jara at left full back. Danny Latza will be chosen to replace the injured Fabian Frei in the centre of midfield with Christoph Moritz forced to settle for a spot on the bench.

Borussia Dortmund will start with Sokratis in defence but Subotic may come in with Champions League fixtures in mind. Jonas Hofmann and Adnan Januzaj provide the flair from the bench to change it up with Ramos available to replace Aubameyang should Thomas Tuchel feel his side need more threat. The only injury concern is Marcel Schmelzer, who will be replaced by Joo-Ho Park.

Possible Line-ups

Mainz: 4-2-3-1 formation: Karius; Balogun, Bungert, Bell, Bengtsson; Baumgartlinger, Latza; Clemens, Malli, Samperio; Muto

Dortmund: 4-1-4-1 formation: Burki; Ginter, Sokratis, Hummels, Park; Weigl; Reus, Gundogan, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan; Aubameyang

Prediction

Mainz currently sit 8th in the Bundesliga and despite a defeat to Bayern last time they played in front of their home fans they had recorded 3-0 and 3-1 home victories over Hannover and Hoffenheim respectively. Mainz have the ability to hurt the big teams with a counter attacking style and they will hope to take advantage of the fragility surrounding the Dortmund squad at this moment in time.

Dortmund are struggling for form of late, without a win in their last 3 league games and last time out they gave an embarrassing performance against title rivals Bayern Munich losing 5-1. Thomas Tuchel will be glad to have his players back in camp following the international break, the majority of which would have had a good time seeing their team qualify for Euro 2016 Finals, perhaps the break will get the team back to winning ways here.

Even though Dortmund have struggled of late the international break may have rejuvenated the squad who will return to training with a new sense of purpose having recorded wins with their national sides. Marco Reus to get back on the score sheet in this one with a Dortmund victory.
