Napoli come into this fixture after a 4-1 home win against Lazio. After conceding an early goal, Napoli displayed an impressive attacking threat and managed to put four past Lazio’s Albanian goalkeeper, Thomas Strakosha. That win kept Napoli at the top of Serie A, just one point above second-placed Juventus who have been crowned champions for the last six consecutive seasons. Napoli have an excellent chance to claim their first Serie A title since 1990 providing they can keep producing results like they have been.
Napoli were eliminated from the Champions League after failing to progress from the group stages. That won’t bother manager Maurizio Sarri too much as it gives his side a chance to concentrate on pushing for the league title. He will want to progress here in the Europa League also but it will depend on how much priority he gives to this competition over the league.
Winning nine of their last ten games across all competitions, Napoli will be looking to get a good result at home in this first leg. Their next league match is against struggling Spal on Sunday and we expect Sarri to field a strong side against Leipzig to ensure victory.
Forward Arkadiusz Milik and left-back Faouzi Ghoulam are both likely to miss the fixture for Napoli.
RB Leipzig have back-to-back league wins against Monchengladbach and most recently, Augsburg, pushing them up to second in the Bundesliga. The league will go to Bayern this season but Leipzip still have a lot to play for as they battle it out with the top-half of the table for Champions League spots.
Leipzip have been tough to beat lately, winning four of their last six games and conceding just four goals. However, their away form this season hasn’t been as impressive. After a positive start on the road, RB Leipzig have only managed two wins from eight, conceding an average of 1.9 goals in those games which isn’t good news when lining up against a Napoli side which has found the net nine times in their last three matches.
Ademola Lookman, who joined RB Leipzig from Everton last month, is ineligible to play as he has already featured in the competition during his time at his old club. Austrian midfielder Stefan Ilsanker is currently suspended for this match while winger Emil Forsberg is unlikely to be fit enough to play.
