International Champions Cup football tips – Real Madrid vs Roma prediction

Real Madrid will be starting their preparations for the new season without a familiar face, as Iker Casillas has left for Porto. That should mean a start for Keylor Navas in goal if fit but there are other decisions in the team which need to be made. Will Danilo get the chance to impress at right-back or will Carvajal get the nod and what about Casemiro and Illarramendi, will they get their chance in midfield?

Roma have also taken a full strength squad over to Australia and are their team will be difficult to predict. However, former Perth Glory star Daniel De Silva is expected to play some part in the match, probably coming off the bench to make his first appearance for his new club.

Probable Line-ups

Real Madrid: 4-3-3 formation: Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo; Kroos, Illarramendi, Isco; Benzema, Bale, Ronaldo

Roma: 4-5-1 formation: Lobont; Cholevas, Yanga-Mbiwa, Manolas, Florenzi; Keita, Nainggolan, Pjanic, Gervinho, Ljajic; Totti

  • Real Madrid have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Roma have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 2.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Roma have scored an average of 1.5 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Roma’s previous 10 matches
  • The last time these teams met was in this tournament last year and Roma ran out 1-0 winners

This will be a good test for both teams in-front of what is sure to be a packed stadium in Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia. As it’s a pre-season match, expect their to be many changes throughout the match from both teams, as managers aim to get their players some time on the pitch.

Rafa Benitez will want to use these games to assess his squad and it could be a great chance for the likes of Casemiro, Jese, Isco and Illarramendi to impress. Roma have also strengthened over the summer and will have a number of players looking to make a good impression. It will be interesting to see how Navas and Sergio Ramos perform, given the recent speculation surrounding the two players.

Buoyed by a strong crowd, this should be an entertaining match, with the players looking to get back to full fitness and impress their manager at the same time.
