Premier League League football tips – Watford vs Southampton prediction

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores, has two players definitely out with injury and they are Joel Ekstrand and Lloyd Doyley. However, new signings Giedrius Arlauskis and Miguel Britos are both available following suspension and may feature from the bench.

Southampton still have a number players unavailable for selection, including Fraser Forster, Florin Gardos, Jordy Clasie and Gastón Ramírez. Full-back Ryan Bertrand is working his way back to fitness but is also unlikely to feature. Despite the absentees, Koeman may still make some changes, following the 3-0 defeat to Everton last week.

Possible Line-ups

Watford: 4-2-3-1 formation: Gomes; Nyom, Cathcart, Prodl, Holebas; Behrami, Capoue; Anya, Abdi, Jurado; Deeney

Southampton: 4-2-3-1 formation: Stekelenburg; Soares, Fonte, Yoshida, Targett; Romeu, Wanyama; Mane, Ward-Prowse, Juanmi; Pelle

  • Watford have won 4, Drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Southampton have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Watford have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Southampton have scored an average of 2.5 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Watford’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Southampton’s previous 10 matches
  • The last time these teams met at Vicarage Road was in 2012 in the Championship and Southampton won 3-0

Watford have performed well in the early stages of the season and the point at Goodison was an especially good result. Being difficult to beat is a good starting point for any team promoted from the Championship but the next step, has to be winning matches and considering Southampton’s form, this has to go down as a good chance for Watford to get their first win of the season.

Southampton need to get their season going, following a poor home defeat at the hands of Everton last weekend. With Europa League matches in mid-week, perhaps this is having a negative impact on Koeman’s team and could develop in to a real problem, if they qualify for the group stages. However, with a few fresh faces in the team for this game, Southampton have enough about them to at least take a point.

A Southampton team struggling for form against a solid, competitive Watford team, could result in a low scoring draw.
