Wimbledon Predictions | Ladies Final

Serena Williams is on course to claim her 21st Grand Slam title and 3rd of the calendar year, as the world number one takes on Garbine Muguruza in the 2015 Wimbledon ladies singles final.

Williams made short work of Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals, easing through the match 6-2 6-4. The American received much sterner tests earlier in the tournament and will be delighted that she came through without any difficulty. During the match, Williams won 25 of her 29 service points, including a total of 13 aces. Williams also converted three of her nine break point opportunities and will hope to build on these figures for the final.

Williams’ opponent is 21 year old Garbine Muguruza. The young Spaniard came through a great semi-final against Agnieszka Radwanska, winning in three sets. However, the amount of unforced errors she committed in that match, 23, will need to be significantly reduced if she is to trouble Williams in the final. The world number 20 won 79% of her first serve points and will hope for more of the same against Williams.

Muguruza upset Williams at the French Open in 2014, winning the match 6-2 6-2 and will draw on that experience for the final. They also met at the Australian Open earlier this year and Williams won in three sets, 2-6 6-3 6-2, so the world number one certainly hasn’t had it all her own way in recent meetings.

If Muguruza can handle the pressure of a Wimbledon final, she has proven she can compete with Williams. However, it’s difficult to see her taking any more than one set away from the world number one.

Williams is 10/3 with Bet365 to win in three sets.
