Bundesliga football tips – Dortmund vs Gladbach prediction

Dortmund will start the new Bundesliga season with keeper Roman Bürki between the sticks, meaning a place on the bench for Roman Weidenfeller. New signings Julian Weigl and Gonzalo Castro are competing for a place in midfield and both could start, meaning Sven Bender dropping out to make way for them.

Gladbach are without both Martin Stranzl and Álvaro Domínguez at the back, which could mean starts for Andreas Christensen, on loan from Chelsea and Marvin Schulz. New signings signings Lars Stindl and Josip Drmic are expected to start the match, with Ibrahima Traoré and Thorgan Hazard in contention for a place on the right flank.

Possible Line-ups

Dortmund: 4-1-4-1 formation: Burki; Schmelzer, Hummels, Sokratis, Piszczek; Weigl; Gundogan, Mkhitaryan, Castro, Reus; Aubameyang

Gladbach: 4-4-1-1 formation: Sommer; Jantschke, Christensen, Schulz, Wendt; Stindl, Xhaka, Traore, Herrmann; Raffael; Drmic

  • Dortmund have won 9 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Gladbach have won 5 and drawn 5 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Dortmund have scored an average of 3.4 goals and conceded an average of 0.4 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Gladbach have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Dortmund’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Gladbach’s previous 10 matches
  • Gladbach have won 4 of the last 5 meetings between the teams

Dortmund start the new Bundesliga season at home, with a new manager and some new players in the starting XI. Thomas Tuchel has enjoyed a promising pre-season and the team look confident and ready to make their mark this season, after a disappointing campaign in 2014/15. Dortmund fans will be hoping the team can make a return to the Champions League but they’ve only got to take one look at Arsenal, to realise a good pre-season can count for nothing on the opening day.

Contrary to Dortmund, Gladbach enjoyed a great season last time out and have qualified for the Champions League group stages. What influence that has on their Bundesliga form remains to be seen and they have to cope with the loss of Christoph Kramer and Max Kruse from the team that performed so well last season.

This could be one of the games of the weekend in the Bundesliga, only a win will really do for Dortmund, as they are at home but a point would probably be considered a good start for Gladbach.
