Bundesliga football tips – Werder Bremen vs Schalke prediction

Werder Bremen have to make do without Sebastian Prödl this season and that could mean a central defensive partnership of Assani Lukimya and Jannik Vestergaard. Santiago Garcia and Ozkan Yildrim are out for Werder but Ulisses Garcia and Anthony Ujah could make their first Bundesliga starts for the club.

Schalke also have players missing at the back, with Benedikt Höwedes and Atsuto Uchida both big losses to the defence. Junior Caicara could come in for his debut at full-back, with Johannes Geis and Franco Di Santo also likely to come in for their first Bundesliga appearances. Neither Kevin-Prince Boateng and Felipe Santana will feature.

Possible Line-ups

Werder Bremen: 4-3-1-2 formation: Wiedwald; Gebre Selassie, Lukimya, Vestergaard, Garcia; Bargfrede, Fritz, Junuzovic; Bartels; Oztunali Ujah

Schalke: 4-4-2 formation: Fahrmann; Caicara, Nastasic, Matip, Aogo; Geis, Goretzka, Draxler, Choupo-Moting; Di Santo, Huntelaar

  • Werder Bremen have won 6, drawn 3 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Schalke have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Werder Bremen have scored an average of 2.4 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Schalke have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Werder Bremen’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Schalke’s previous 10 matches
  • Schalke are unbeaten in 10 games against Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen manager Viktor Skripnik, will be hoping for a much better start to this season than last, which saw them go 10 matches before their first win. With some good new arrivals at the club, including goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, Werder will be hoping to get off to a positive start at home and build on their promising recent form.

Andre Breitenreiter takes his Schalke team to Bremen, with the addition of Werder’s former striker, Franco Di Santo in their ranks. Di Santo is likely to form a partnership with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar up-front, with service from Julian Draxler in midfield. The Schalke squad looks in good shape but the loss of Benedikt Höwedes is a blow and he will be missed at the back.

This could be a very open game, with both teams finding the net and sharing the spoils.

We say: Draw and both teams to score at 3/1 Bet365
