Champions League preview – Arsenal vs Bayern Munich prediction

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be without Danny Welbeck, Thomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere through injury. Goalkeeper David Ospina was not even on the bench against Watford at the weekend and considering the criticism Wenger took after starting him against Olympiakos, Petr Cech should get the nod.

Bayern Munich arrive in London with a few injury concerns of their own. Creative midfielder Mario Goetze is sidelined with a long term injury and defenders Medhi Benatia and Holger Badstuber are also out. With Kingsley Coman and Jan Kirchoff also unavailable, it will come as a good news that striker Robert Lewandowski has been passed fit for Pep Guardiola.

Possible Line-ups

Arsenal: 4-2-3-1 formation: Cech; Bellerin, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal; Cazorla, Coquelin; Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez; Walcott

Bayern Munich: 4-3-3 formation: Neuer; Rafinha, Martinez, Boateng, Alaba; Lahm, Alonso, Thiago; Muller, Lewandowski, Costa

Prediction

Arsenal are in desperate need of some points to kick-start their 2015/16 Champions League campaign. While the defeat at Dinamo Zagreb was disappointing, the loss at home to Olympiakos was a devastating blow and Arsene Wenger’s team have it all to do in Group F. They have recorded some good results in the Premier League since the Olympiakos match and the performance against Manchester United was superb. The question is, can Arsenal produce that type of display against one of the strongest teams in Europe?

Bayern Munich arrive at the Emirates Stadium with a perfect record in the Champions League this season. An excellent 3-0 away win against Olympiakos was followed up by a very comfortable 5-0 home win against Dinamo Zagreb. Domestically, Bayern have just set a record for winning their opening nine Bundesliga games and have scored 25 goals in their last 7 games in all competitions, conceding just 3 goals in the process.

Arsenal really need a win here because if other results go against them, they could be out of the reckoning in this group before the final two games. However, Bayern are in imperious form and will fully expect to head back to Munich with maximum points.
