Champions League preview – Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich prediction.

Atletico could line up with same eleven that started against Malaga on Saturday. Jose Gimenez played the full 90 minutes on his return following a one-month absence and is set to partner Lucas Hernandez in the centre of defence with Diego Godin out of action. Fernando Torres missed the second leg of the quarter-final against Barcelona through suspension but returns alongside Antoine Griezmann in attack. Yannick Carrasco is expected to start on the bench while Thiago and Oliver Torres remain sidelined.

Pep Guardiola made seven changes on Saturday when Bayern Munich beat Hertha Berlin 2-0. Philipp Lahm, David Alaba, Javi Martinez and Juan Bernat are expected to return to the back four with Franck Ribery and Douglas Costa coming in on the flanks. Kingsley Coman would be an option on the right if he can recover from a thigh problem while Arjen Robben, Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber have been ruled out.

Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich Prediction

It is getting intense for Atletico who are gripped in a three-way battle for La Liga title. Diego Simeone will be looking for a more convincing display than the one at the Calderon on Saturday when his side scraped three points with a 1-0 win against Malaga. The Colchoneros beat tournament favourites Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate to set up a semi-final showdown with the German champions and go into Wednesday’s first leg having kept four consecutive clean sheets. Atletico’s greatest strength has been their defending when at home and they have only conceded in one of 15 Champions League home matches going back to September 2013.   Bayern held Benfica to a 2-2 draw in Lisbon a fortnight ago to win their quarter-final 3-2 on aggregate. It was the fourth time the German’s had scored two or more goals away from home in this season’s competition and they have drawn both away games in the knockout phase having previously tied 2-2 with Juventus in Turin. Pep Guardiola was able to rest a number of his players at the weekend as his team moved a step closer to sealing their fourth consecutive Bundesliga title with a 2-0 victory in Berlin. Atletico will look to their defence to help secure a positive result and are capable of winning this game by the narrowest margin.
