Champions League preview – Chelsea vs PSG prediction.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is hoping striker Diego Costa recovers from a minor tendon injury that kept him out of the match against Stoke at the weekend. Cesc Fabregas was also rested for the game and is expected to return for the Champions League showdown with PSG on Wednesday. John Terry missed training and looks unlikely to be fit, which leaves Branislav Ivanovic to continue in a central defensive role as Kurt Zouma is out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury. Pedro is taking it day to day with a hamstring injury and Brazilian midfielder Kenedy is struggling with a groin strain. Nimanja Matic was suspended for the game in Paris and is an option in midfield.

Laurent Blanc rested a number of players for the Ligue 1 match against Montpelier on Saturday and was handed good news when Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi were passed fit to travel to London. PSG could field the same team that lined up for the first leg at the Parc des Princes two weeks ago. It will mean a return to the bench for Edinson Cavani who scored the winner after coming on as a substitute in the first game against Chelsea.

Possible Line-ups

Prediction

Chelsea bounced back from the 2-1 first leg defeat by beating Manchester City 5-1 in the FA Cup and winning their next two Premier League games which were both away from home. Hiddink’s men conceded a late equaliser against Stoke at the weekend, their fifth draw in the last six league games at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s Champions League home record reads much better with five wins and a draw from the last six – however, it was the 2-2 draw against PSG which ended last season’s campaign on away goals.

PSG have prepared by playing a goalless draw with an understrength side, exactly as they did before the first leg when Blanc’s makeshift eleven drew 0-0 at home to Lille. The French champions are 23 points clear in Ligue 1 and can afford to focus almost entirely on their  European campaign. This is PSG’s fourth visit to Stamford Bridge in the Champions League where they have drawn two and lost two.

PSG do not need to win this to progress and Guus Hiddink could be left with yet another draw in his temporary tenure at Chelsea.
