Champions League preview – CSKA Moscow vs PSV prediction

CSKA Moscow are without Vassili Berezutski and Aleksandr Golovin due to injury. However, the main concern is over goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, who is rated as doubtful. The keeper is nursing a knee injury which was picked up at the weekend and will probably be replaced by Sergey Chepchugov, if he doesn’t make it.

PSV have a number of injury concerns ahead of the trip to Russia. Manager Philip Cocu could be without Florian Jozefoon, Menno Koch, Jetro Williams, Luuk de Jong and Andres Guardado. Mexican international Andres Guardado will be a big miss, having controlled the midfield for a long spell against Manchester United.

Possible Line-ups

CSKA Moscow: 4-2-3-1 formation: Akinfeev; Fernandes, Berezutski, Ignashevich, Schennikov; Natkho, Wernbloom; Tosic, Eremenko, Dzagoev; Doumbia

PSV: 4-3-3 formation: Zoet; Arias, Bruma, Moreno, Poulsen; Propper, Hendrix, Schaars; Lestienne, Locadia, Narsingh

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of CSKA Moscow’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

CSKA Moscow started their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 defeat in Germany to Wolfsburg. However, the Russian’s will not be too down-hearted about that result and will feel they have what it takes to defeat PSV at home. In fact, CSKA are undefeated in their last 4 home Champions League games and have held the likes of Manchester City and Roma to draws recently.

PSV come in to this game off the back of a great 2-1 over Manchester United in their opening match. The Dutch team will feel confident, having won that match, that they can get something from this game and place themselves in real contention for qualification. However, PSV have never won 2 games in a row in the Champions League group stages and have lost 8 of their previous 11 away matches in the competition.

CSKA Moscow struggle to keep clean-sheets in the Champions League, so PSV should manage to get on the score-sheet but may find it difficult to take anything more than a point.
