Champions League preview – Dynamo Kiev vs Chelsea prediction

Dynamo Kiev may have to do without Younes Belhanda, Evgeniy Makarenko and Sergiy Myakushko for the visit of Chelsea. It’ll be Belhanda who will be the big miss out of three, if he fails to make it, having played a part in 8 of Dynamo Kiev’s games this season. Central midfielder Serhiy Rybalka is also rated as doubtful for the hosts and would be a huge loss for the Dynamo team.

Chelsea are still without first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and full-back Branislav Ivanovic, who are both injured. Therefore, Abdul Baba Rahman should continue at left-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta playing at right-back. Jose Mourinho has a decision to make in midfield and it remains to be seen whether Ruben Loftus-Cheek will keep his place or if the likes of Nemanja Matic and Eden Hazard will return to the starting XI.

Possible Line-ups

Dynamo Kiev: 4-2-3-1 formation: Shovkovskiy; Silva, Khacheridi, Dragovic, Antunes; Veloso, Rybalka; Yarmolenko, Gusev, Gonzalez; Moraes

Chelsea: 4-2-3-1 formation: Begovic; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Terry, Baba; Loftus-Cheek, Ramires; Pedro, Fabregas, Willian; Costa

Prediction

Dynamo Kiev are unbeaten in the Champions League this season and sit top of Group G on 4 points from their two games. The 2-0 win at Maccabi Tel-Aviv could prove to be crucial come the end of the group and will give the hosts confidence they can qualify. Currently sitting in second place in the Ukraine Premier League, Dynamo Kiev suffered a very disappointing 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk on the weekend and will need to put that to the back of their minds quickly. Other than that defeat, form has been very good and Dynamo Kiev boast a formidable home record.

Chelsea are still yet to convince this season and despite the win over a poor Aston Villa at the weekend, are struggling for form. Wins over Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Arsenal were supposed to be the catalyst for improvement but results and performances have continued to disappoint, including a 2-1 defeat to Porto in the Champions League. Who knows what is going on in the Chelsea dressing room but a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa does not constitute ‘turning the corner’ and Chelsea have won only two of six away matches this season.

Dynamo Kiev is a tough place to get a result at the best of times and Chelsea will do well to return home with anything more than a point.
