Champions League preview – Juventus vs Sevilla prediction

Juventus still have some key players on the injury list for match day two in the Champions League. Mario Mandzukic, Claudio Marchisio and Stephan Lichtsteiner are all definitely out of the game. Manager Max Allegri, may opt to go with the same starting XI which defeated Manchester City a couple of weeks ago, with Simone Zaza in place of Mandzukic up-front and Simone Padoin in for Lichtsteiner.

Sevilla are also without a number of players, who other than for injury, would have been in contention for a place in the starting XI. Those missing include Ever Banega, Nico Pareja and Adil Rami. There are also a number of other players rated as doubtful and Unai Emery may select the same starting XI from their weekend win.

Possible Line-ups

Juventus: 4-3-3 formation: Buffon; Padoin, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Sturaro, Pogba, Hernanes; Cuadrado, Morata, Zaza

Sevilla: 4-2-3-1 formation: Rico; Coke, Andreoli, Kolodziejczak, Tremoulinas; Krychowiak, N’Zonzi; Konoplyanka, Iborra, Krohn-Dehli; Gameiro

Prediction

Juventus have been really struggling in Serie A this season and remain very close to the relegation zone. However, they started their bid for the Champions League with a great win at Manchester City and a repeat of that performance would go a long way to winning this match. You have to go all the way back to April 2013, for the last time Juventus lost a home European match.

Similarly to the hosts, Sevilla have started their domestic season poorly but began their Champions League campaign well. A great 3-0 over Germany’s Borussia Moenchengladbach leaves Sevilla top of Group D. Domestic form on the other hand, has been less than impressive, with just 1 win from 6 games. However, that win did come on the weekend and Sevilla will travel to Turin with a bit more confidence as a result.

Juventus are very difficult to beat on home soil in European competition but they have yet to taste a victory at the Juventus Stadium this season. Having said that, Sevilla’s recent away record is also poor and the match could end level.
