Champions League preview – Manchester City vs PSG prediction.

Yaya Toure was given 30 minutes for Manchester City against West Brom on Saturday and could return to the starting lineup after missing the first leg with injury. Manuel Pellegrini has concerns over the fitness of striker Sergio Aguero and centre-back Nicolas Otamendi after the pair picked up knocks in the same game. Attacking midfielder David Silva was left out of the squad at the weekend to rest his ankle and faces a fitness test before Tuesday. Vincent Kompany is back in training and will be assessed before the game. Raheem Sterling is ruled out with a groin injury.

PSG will be without central defender David Luiz and influential midfielder Blaise Matuidi who are both suspended for the second leg. Javier Pastore and Marco Verratti are doubtful which could open the door for Benjamin Stambouli to start in midfield. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp injured his knee against Guingamp on Saturday but Salvatore Sirigu is available to replace him after recovering from a bout of sickness. Laurent Blanc chose centre-forward Edison Cavani ahead of wideman Lucas Moura in the first leg and may go the same way on Tuesday.

Prediction

Manchester City were left in pole position after Fernandinho earned his side a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Parc des Princes last week. City came from behind to beat West Brom 2-1 at the weekend and have now scored eight goals in the last three games. Pellegrini’s men lost their first home game of the campaign against Juventus in the group stage and have since won two , v Sevilla and Monchengladbach, and drawn one, v Dynamo Kiev.

PSG’s domestic form gives little indication of how they will perform in the latter stages of the Champions League. They are so far clear in Ligue 1 that the manager has been able to rest key players in preparation for the big European showdowns. Laurent Blanc’s side has won three of its four away games in this season’s Champions League, losing 1-0 at Real Madrid and defeating another Premier League club, Chelsea, in the last round.

The first leg highlighted the defensive frailties of the two teams and with world class finishers on both sides this should go the team that creates most opportunities.
